Qantas will refit another seven of its regional lounges over coming months as part of a multi-million-dollar investment program.

Lounges in Rockhampton, Gladstone, Kalgoorlie, Tamworth, Coffs Harbour, Port Hedland, and Karratha will be temporarily closed over various dates between 5 February and 19 March for the renovations, which follow the opening of a refreshed Broome lounge in 2024.

“These investments are part of our commitment to ensuring customers have great experience with us both on the ground and in the air,” QantasLink chief executive Mark Dal Pra said.

“We know how much our frequent flyers value our regional lounges, whether it’s to grab a drink and a snack, or as a quiet place to get some work done.

“We apologise for the inconvenience while we renovate, but we’re confident the finished product will make it worthwhile.”

According to Qantas, the renovated lounges will provide “improved comfort, upgraded amenities and a more contemporary design for customers travelling through some of its key regional destinations”.

“Each lounge will receive a refreshed interior featuring a distinct, new colour palette inspired by the region’s natural landscapes,” the airline said.

“Customers can expect modern furniture and improved seating options, refined finishes such as new flooring and updated surfaces, as well as upgraded technology including more charging points and entertainment displays.”

Qantas’ recent lounge renovations are part of a $100 million refresh announced in February 2023, which also includes developments at locations such as London Heathrow, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart.

“Being back in profit means we’re back to making long-term investments for our customers,” said then-Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce at the time.

“Millions of people a year visit our lounges, and they are typically our frequent flyers who travel with us the most, so anything we do to improve them is a way of saying thank you to our most loyal customers.”

The Flying Kangaroo says it is making a “broader investment in regional Australia”, which also encompasses its fleet renewal program.

“This includes the addition of 11 state-of-the-art A220 aircraft, with 18 more on the way, and the transition to a single fleet of Q400s, which will improve reliability, reduce emissions per seat and ensure can keep delivering for customers across regional Australia,” the airline said.
